A new agreement between the Federal and Provincial Governments and the company 3M has created a made-in-Ontario solution for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
3M has selected Brockville as a strategic location for a new manufacturing facility that will make millions of N95 respirators that will serve many markets.
The five-year agreement announced today will also create 50 million masks each year to meet future demand.
Premier Doug Ford says this means jobs, stronger supply chains and reducing dependence on overseas suppliers.
“This is one of my proudest moments as Premier, because today I know that Ontario will never have to depend on another country for the N95 masks we need to protect our nurses and doctors, our front-line heroes,” said Ford.
The agreement sees Ontario and the Feds both invest 23.3 million to support 3M’s capital investment of $70 million.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says from the start of the crisis the Federal government has worked with the Provinces.
He says fighting the pandemic is truly a Team Canada effort.
We’re working to make sure health care workers have the personal protective equipment they need to stay safe and keep you healthy. Premier @FordNation and I are announcing an agreement with @3MCanada that will help us do that – tune in now for details: https://t.co/JhtnVbSjMM
