There was a celebration at 7ACRES today (October 17) to mark one year of legalization of the recreational use of cannabis in Canada.
The Tiverton employer boasts 700 full-time employees; making it the second largest private employer in the area.
A year ago 7ACRES Communication's Manager, Jenny Posthumus wouldn't have fathomed the amount of employees.
“Our people are our biggest asset…we knew infrastructure would grow to this scale; in terms of staff required, we did not.”
She says the original projection was 400 employees.
“We won't sacrifice quality and having the people do the job is our competitive advantage. I believe that is why we've grown so substantially, because we use the power of the people to have quality cannabis for the recreational market coast to coast.”
Over the year the cannabis producer which was originally a medical marijuana supplier won the Craft Grower of the Year Award.
7ACRES also picked up accolades at the 2018 annual Canadian Cannabis Awards, where they were named Brand of the Year.
General Manager Ram Davloor says that was their mission and he never expected the facility to grow to the scale that it is now.
“To grow great cannabis to scale, it's never really been done before but to do it as such a large scale and then we get recognized as Craft Grower of the Year…we were up against a lot of great competition.”
Davloor says they won based off all their strains.
Supreme Cannabis Company, 7ACRES parent company is looking to set-up a retail shop “that would be quite grand…and bring in Cannabis tourism.”
He was unable to say where it would be located in Canada.
“They're evaluating where they would put it now.”
Over their legal year their product line expanded from more than just bud; and they also sell their oil and trimmings to businesses for extraction.
