Local string musicians are marking Owen Sound’s 2nd annual World Fiddle Day.
Leith fiddler Murray Smith launched Owen Sound’s World Fiddle Day last year after hearing about celebrations elsewhere in Canada and around the globe.
The event gets underway at the Queen’s Park Bandshell on Saturday, beginning at 11:15 AM and running until the late afternoon.
Classical, Scottish, Appalachian, East Coast, Country and old time fiddle styles and social dance will be the focus of Owen Sound’s World Fiddle Day celebration.
Smith tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the inaugural event was a huge success last year, and organizers are hoping for the same kind of turnout.
Dancing and fiddling workshops are planned after the morning/afternoon jams.
There’s no admission charge, although organizers encourage voluntary donations to support youth programs run by the Georgian Bay Symphony and the Tom Thomson Art Gallery — the two sponsoring organizations.
According to Smith, Grey County is really a popular area for fiddlers.
