The downtown grocery store on 2nd Avenue East in Owen Sound will stay open.
Mayor Deb Haswell tells Bayshore Broadcasting News that Metro officials tell her the location is making money and there are no plans for it to close.
Last summer, concerns were raised that the store would close, after the grocery chain announced it was reorganizing and had not yet decided which locations in Ontario would be closed as a result.
At the time, the company was looking at closing three outlets and converting 15 stores into Food Basics.
However, Haswell says with new condo developments in the downtown core they have managed to convince Metro that a store at that location is vital.
Mayor Haswell says it is possible there could be a name change but the facility will remain a grocery store.
There already is a Food Basics in Owen Sound at Heritage Place Shopping Centre.
