Good news for those who use SMART transit.
The Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit (SMART) system has dropped its rates from 80 cents a kilometre to 30 cents a kilometre.
Hanover is a member of SMART — and Mayor Kathi Maskell says it will save a lot of money for users.
Those who use the service include the elderly, the disabled and those with mobility issues.
Maskell says most of SMART’s users are on fixed incomes and notes the 50 cent a kilometre drop will make the service much more affordable.
Maskell adds SMART continues to expand in more communities — and that too will bring costs down.
SMART currently serves eight municipalities throughout Grey and Bruce Counties — including West Grey, Hanover, Brockton, Arran-Elderslie, Huron Kinloss, Kincardine, Saugeen Shores and Southgate.
Maskell adds the expansion will also bring costs down for member municipalities who provide the company with baseline funding.
