Greyhound is reducing its bus service between Owen Sound and Barrie.
The largest provider of intercity bus transportation in Canada has announced plans to cut in half the number of trips into and out of the Scenic City.
There are currently two trips from Owen Sound to Barrie daily.
But starting September 11th, there will be only one — a Greyhound bus will leave Owen Sound at 8 AM and it will return to the City around 3 PM.
That will also reduce the number of stops in Meaford, Thornbury, Collingwood, Stayner and Wasaga Beach.
Manager of Corporate Communications Stephanie Creech says the decision was made after they evaluated the route.
Creech tells Bayshore Broadcasting News ridership was too low.
Owen Sound Mayor Deb Haswell said during Monday’s Council meeting that she plans to complain about the 50 per cent reduction service.
Creech says they have not heard from the Mayor yet, and they will listen to her concerns — but she notes Greyhound must ensure the profitability of the company.
She says the routes have to make sense economically and environmentally.
Creech adds Greyhound is committed to finding a new pickup and drop off location for passengers once the City closes the bus terminal at the end of September.
The only other bus route from Owen Sound is offered by Aboutown Northlink, to London three days a week.
